Are you renting? Are you protected?

In general terms, when a new client is looking to take on a new mortgage or remortgage an existing property, they are not only given mortgage advice, but will also have been given advice about the relevant protection needed to make sure they can remain in their home. They can then continue to afford mortgage repayments and their monthly outgoings should the worst happen and they be unable to work due to long term illness or injury, for example.

When clients are renting, they do not seem to receive the same advice (this might not always be the case but is my personal experience). I want to be able to help all renters have the same access to advice regarding protection products that mortgage clients have, as well as being able understand the different types of products available for their specific circumstances.

I see no difference between someone taking on a new mortgage and someone looking to rent a home. There is still a need to make sure that you receive protection advice to ensure that you and your family can remain in your family home should you be unable to work or pass away, for example.

Let's talk about a specific protection product called Income protection. This is an insurance policy which is available for the employed and self employed and will pay out an amount of money monthly (based on your income and circumstances) for a set term (defined at the outset) if you are unable to work due to long term illness or injury.

Income protection can provide peace of mind knowing that you are still able to meet your monthly outgoings in the event you cannot work. This means that whilst you are recovering and getting yourself back to work, you do not have the added stress of worrying about making sure you can keep paying your rent or the threat of eviction from non-payment. Without the stress of money, your health may recover quicker and enable you to return to work sooner, all the while remaining in your home.

We can also provide advice on life insurance, critical illness cover and many other different types of protection to suit many needs and budgets.
